Dance Combo

A great way to learn a variety of different things in one class each week. Classes include instruction in basic Jazz, basic Tap, Pre-Ballet/Ballet, Creative Movement, Fun Songs, development of fine and gross motor skills, early music skills/rhythm development, the use of props and basic rhythm instruments,

social skills, and lots of fun! 

*Lessons begin the week of 1/16/12. Session ends 6/9/12. See calendar for days off.

Movement & Music

(Starts 1/14/12)

(Ages 10 – 18 months w/ adult caregiver) – 10 class session, NON-PERFORMANCE class

Enjoy fun songs, instrument playing, dancing, socializing with peers and adults, spending quality time with a special child in their life. This class is a great early start to the world of music and dance with the comfort of sharing the experience with a familiar adult.  (This is a non-performance class.)

Craft & Story Time

(January 14, January 21, January 28)

(Ages 3-7) - single class sessions,(This is a non-performance class.)

Make theme crafts, enjoying related stories and movement activities while making friends. 

This is a perfect chance for parents to run errands while children are learning and having fun.

Hip Hop for FUN & Fitness

(Sessions: 12/15/11- 3/8/12 & 3/15/12 – 5/31/12, see calendar for days off)

Adults, ages 18+ – 10 class sessions, NON-PERFORMANCE classes

Hip Hop is a street style Jazz dance with modern, fun & upbeat music.  Classes include stretching, isolations, conditioning, Hip Hop dance moves & more. A great form of exercise, and lots of fun! You’ll have so much fun that you’ll forget that this is a workout!

Stretch & Strength

This class is perfect for students who want to increase their flexibility, strength & balance to complement their dance skills or just improve these skills for health & strength.

NEW February Break Camp Tues, 2/21/12, Wed, 2/22/12 & Thurs, 2/23/12 (3 days)

9:00AM-3:00PM each day @ Perinton Dance Company for ages 5-12

Spend 3 fun days learning MANY forms of the Arts - dance, music, acting, crafts and more all while making new friends.  This camp is staffed by regular instructors/staff and assistant teachers/staff.  Students are divided by age and come together during appropriate activities and lunch time. Pre-registration is required.  

 

Beginning Sight-singing and Music Theory Ages 8-12

(5 classes, 1/14/12 – 2/11/12)

Saturdays 11:15AM-12:00PM (45 minutes, once a week) w/ Ms. Laura Isabella


Do you want your child to improve his/her music reading? Is your child fascinated by the structure of music? Children will learn about the building blocks of pitch, rhythm, dynamics and much more. Children will have fun singing, composing, and analyzing music in a non-competitive way. This class is perfect for students in third grade to sixth grade.  In this class students will:
    -Identify treble and bass clef notes in written form as well as aurally
    -Match sung and played pitches accurately
    -Recognize and break down rhythmic components
    -Clap/tap/stomp/speak/sing rhythms accurately
    -Sight-read short exercises in small groups and alone
    -Sing and understand Solfege using Kodaly hand symbols
    -Comprehend the difference between major and minor
    -Understand the components of basic key signatures: C, D, E, A, G, etc.
    -Compose basic, short melodies in small groups and alone
Students will explore the fundamentals of music through song, composition and analysis. This class is a wonderful way to reinforce school general music class as well as for increasing musical literacy in a fun, non-competitive way.


Intermediate Sight-singing and Music Theory Ages 12 and up

(5 classes, 1/14/12 – 2/11/12)

Saturdays 10:30-11:15AM (45 minutes, once a week) w/ Ms. Laura Isabella


Students will reinforce the fundamentals of music through song, dictation, composition, and analysis. This class is perfect for teens to improve musical literacy for ensemble/NYSSMA/musical production auditions. Students will enjoy musical exploration in a fun, non-competitive way.  In this class students will:
    -
Review treble and bass notes, rhythms, and Solfege notes successfully
    -Clap/tap/stomp/speak/sing rhythms accurately
    -Sight-read short exercises in small groups and alone
    -Dictate rhythms and short melodies on paper
    -Recognize basic triad chord structures with some  roman numeral analysis
    -Understand the Circle of Fifths and recognize keys
    -Sing and understand solfege using Kodaly hand symbols
    -Sing and identify, on paper and aurally, major and minor scales and chords
    -Compose basic, short melodies in small groups and alone
    -Discuss pop, rock, and jazz components of chord changes

 

Ballet/Technique Classes

Classical Ballet Technique, leaps, jumps, turns, barre and center work, stretching and conditioning exercises, the use of proper body placement and posture...  This class helps to improve and gain skills necessary for nearly all forms of dance to help dancers meet their full potential.  The classes listed below are open to all AST/PDC students 10 yrs - adult on a regular and/or drop-in basis. 

(Ballet shoes and proper attire are needed – check w/ studio for details & drop-in rate)
